Forum Update Part 2

Written by Manic Velocity, June 1st, 2008

After over 12 hours of installing and re-installing new forum software, and trying to convert our old software to new software, I’m sorry to say that the conversion ended up a lost cause. It was a lot of trial and error, and nothing seemed to work. There’s good news and bad.

The Good: I’ve set up our new forums. I went with phpBB because it’s extremely flexible and well-supported. And it’s free.

The Bad: Because I wasn’t able to convert our old VBulletin software over to phpBB, everyone will have to re-register their account. This was the one thing I wanted to avoid, and I’m really sorry that I couldn’t make this a more seamless transition. If you are a member of Team StreetStunts, please send me a PM after you register on the new forums so I can get you set up in the proper user group.

The Good/Bad: You can still access the old forums, here. I’ve locked all the forums to discourage continued use. Please feel free to re-create any old threads on the new forums.

In a few months, I will take this homepage offline along with the old forums once I feel that everyone has made the transition. Eventually the entirety of the website will be available on the new forums. Until then, if you guys have any comments or questions, you know how to get a hold of me.

Thanks for your patience, and I apologize again for the inconvenience.

SLCPK Design Update

Written by Manic Velocity, April 2nd, 2008

I figured I should at least wait until after April Fool’s to announce this since I assumed everyone would think it was a joke, but you’re looking at the new site design for SLCPK. The blue and grey theme just didn’t appeal to me anymore and I felt it needed a change.

I hope everyone approves, because the pink is here to stay. I think it looks great, and I think it communicates the aim and focus of the parkour community pretty well.

And yes, I’m being completely serious.

EDIT: Alright, alright, I wasn’t completely serious. Consider it a post-April Fool’s Day joke. We now return you to the regular site design. :)

For those that missed it:

SLCPK T-Shirts!

Written by deCon, March 29th, 2008

I am having a friend that is breaking into the clothing industry (he has some sick ideas and artistry) design some shirts using our name. He will be designing the T-shirt according to our specifications, so if you have a specific photo you like, or placement/design idea, please post it here.

This is very preliminary, so please contribute all the ideas you have. Hopefully we can get them out of the presses by the end of May. My goal is to give his company an opportunity to start their line, as well as gain a SLCPK sponsor, and take care of our long lost T-shirt goal.

I trust he will make something amazing, but we’re looking to YOU for the best ideas, after all …You make the community what it is.

Thanks again everyone!

SLCPK.org Parkour & Class Recruitment Fliers

Written by deCon, March 29th, 2008

I’m swamped and maybe I’ll get around to it after the semester is done, but here is another opportunity for everyone to get involved. Here’s what I’m looking for:

A flier with the intent to spark interest in Parkour. Specifically, something that describes Parkour/Free Running and shows a photo or two of what it is, along with a thorough description of the general way to contact us, and get involved (Join SLCPK.org). Further, the description should cover the basics — Safety as a #1 Priority, a learning environment that welcomes all Age/Sex/Cultural divisions, and anything else you find to be important to the PK community.

Another suggestion I would make is emphasizing the possibility for classes. I would like this to be an introductory recruitment, and most importantly, an opportunity to start teaching public classes this summer. Leave space for a date/location — as this is only a preliminary idea, and has yet to be discussed with other community leaders.

The main goal is to not only notify those that already know about parkour, of a place to go in order to train and learn with others, but to give those who have yet to learn about Parkour, the opportunity, as well as a nice public display of what it really is, to bring light to even those who may not have interest, so that we can generate a positive spin on Parkour.

Thank you very much!

Wordpress Upgrade

Written by Manic Velocity, March 29th, 2008

I’ve just upgraded our Wordpress to 2.5. This really won’t affect anybody aside from those members of the community with writing privileges. I hope it’s not too confusing for you guys. I’m still getting the hang of it as it is. If you have any questions, you guys know how to contact me.

Nothing else to add, other than I know I need to make it to more jams. I’m failing at my new year resolution. I promise to make more of an effort! :)

5.10 Freerunner: ARRIVED!!!

Written by deCon, February 24th, 2008

Yes everyone, the time is here. Finally, after much anticipation and confusion, the shoes have arrived, and all but one pair have made it (go_faster’s 10’s — Shipped on Friday after I emailed them the mistake).

You can pick up your shoes whenever, I have them at my home. If you’d like to stop by, give me a call or shoot me a private message. If not, call me and we’ll see if I can’t bring them more towards your direction while I’m doing errands.

Thanks for making this a successful first group buy guys! Hopefully we can reproduce this action by getting some shirts made soon ;).
