Shure SRH440 Earphones Review
The name Shure has been linked up with mikes and earphones for years and is the first brand that is evoked in this area. Their products are of premier quality and have been tried , tested and trusted by professional musicians and vocalists for years. The 440s rank between the 240s and the 840s, of which we will write more at the end of this review.
One of the first and most electrifying feature of the Shure SRH440 is their strength and sturdiness - these phones are built to last and will stand a lot of knocking about. Everything about them, from the hinges to the replaceable wire, asserts durability and quality. They are created for heavy use as is proven by the jack plug that fits sharply and securely into the concomitant quarter inch jack adapter.
In the last analysis however , people buy these phones confidently, not due to their aesthetic charm or their toughness, but primarily, for their sound quality which is top-line. (A conclusive obligation in the voice overs industry.) Shure advertise the undeniable fact that the SRH440s have the most neutral tonal reproduction of the 3 models in the line and I'd agree that this is a precise statement. They sound balanced with clear as crystal tonal reproduction, with a slight, pleasing boost on the bass end.
Thanks to the strength of these phones I revealed that after half an hour I wanted to pull the ear-pads away from my ears and after some weeks essentially replaced the detachable pads with the superior memory-foam pads of the 840 version, which I discovered to be extremely comfy, even after 2 hours of continual listening. The 840 pads cost about $20 a pair. Except for that minor objection, I unhesitatingly suggest the Shure SRH440s for their unrivalled quality and sound.
I discussed the SRH240s and the SRH840s earlier and will briefly introduce these versions. The 240s look reasonable but feel cheaper and lack the sound quality of the other two. They produce a clear sound but aren't as refined as class-leading brands at this cost. The ear-pads and headband feel comfortable even after lengthened listening. The 840s have the specified crystal-clear tonal reproduction we have learned to expect of Shure and their build quality is faultless. They're also excellent value for cash but are ponderous and feel heavy. The cord is rather too short but the ear-pads are supremely comfortable.
I have only briefly described the 240s and 840s and demand that the 440s are a better investment and will meet all of your expectancies for headphones of formidable quality.
Jeff Henderson also advocates the Shure SRH440 for voice over work. This earphone set used along side the Shure Beta 58A mic are a brilliant combo!
