Plain aluminum may cause allergies or not, I don't know, but it definitely will result in black marks on the skin from the aluminum oxide that is almost transparent. If the aluminum is colored, it is anodized (the oxide layer is enhanced and dye is introduced) and it does not come off in my experience.
