Surf Clothing: The History Of The Surf Brands
The movie "Gidget" and "Beach Blanket Bingo" showed the1960’s growing popularity of surfing and started for those lucky enough to live near the beach and spread to the rest of the world what was known to locals as the only sport.
All that was needed was a surf board and some passion, for this reason surfing has never really relied on instructors the was other sports do and this is perhaps surfings greatest asset. All you need is a surfboard, and some swimming ability and the nearby beach. In its history surfing was predominantly a male dominated sport but as times change we are seeing more and more women come up through the ranks in the surfing world. There was also an increase in the amount of surf clothing being produced.
From the 60s to the 80s it would be very unusual to see many women doing water sports at the beach. From surfings early days women were not actively encouraged to take part and it still remains today that surfing is still seen as a male sport although this is starting to change. But now there are even clothes and surfboards to satisfy women.
Please see Roxy clothes and little Trixie surfboards. In the 1960s a lot of surfing accessories (e.g. wetsuits, rash guards and chain) applications was not available for surfers. It was clear that something has to be done about the freezing waters that dedicated surfers had to endure during the coldest winters. Now even when the conditions in the water are freezing cold surfers are able to surf for as long as they want.
Wetsuits stick close to the surfers body and are made from neoprene. The way wetsuits work is by holding a layer of water close to your skin in the neoprene of the wetsuit your body heats this water and keeps you relatively warm. Boots & gloves manufactured from neoprene are now also commonly available and provide extra protection against the elements for those that like to surf no matter what the conditions. Quiksilver and their sister company Roxy were extremely happy to have become part of the surfing world.
Will I be able to play my clarinet with neoprene gloves?
I found these neoprene gloves which are thin and are supposed to be awesome. My fingers get extremely cold when I play my clarinet outside for marching band. Will these gloves (I'll give a link) seal the toneholes?

I don't think those will work. They seem really bulky. I can play guitar with gloves on, but the gloves I wear are very thin. You could wear some marching band gloves:

Or if you're not into that, you could try wearing some very thin leather gloves with cashmere lining (I've worn those before while playing guitar and they work fine).

Whatever gloves you use, be sure to practice with them on before performing outside.
